Simple styling - autumn and beyond
As the light fades and that familiar scent of summer’s decay returns, there is something deeply grounding about readying our homes for the slower months ahead. Autumn invites us to gather warmth, texture, and gentle seasonal touches that echo the changes outside - part of our primitive ritual of making home feel ever more inviting as we ease into winter and beyond.
I believe seasonal decorating need not be bold or overdone. Often, it’s the quieter details that make a space feel in tune with the time of year. Nothing needs to be perfect either - which is why I’m drawn to rustic, versatile pieces that offer a subtle nod to autumn and the festive months, without tying you to a single moment in time.
Among my favourites are these rusty metal star outlines, their raw, weathered finish and simple form give them just enough presence to feel festive, yet they remain understated enough to stay out all year round. Hang one on a wall, door, or lean it on a shelf - it’s a piece that moves effortlessly with the seasons, from harvest tables to winter mantels.
Our sets of rustic bells with bows are another favourite. Handmade, humble, and beautifully weathered-looking, these charming pieces are adorned with bows made from sari silk, a fabric that naturally bears a taffeta-like texture, giving each bow just the right structure. Frayed edges lend a worn, lived-in feel - each bell (and bow) is unique, no two ever the same.
Part of the joy lies in finding new places to hang them; they might be discovered on peg rails, a wreath, a door handle, or woven into a bundle of bare branches.
These pieces aren’t just decorative - they’re part of a slower approach to styling, and they reflect natural materials, traditional craftsmanship, and the comfort of things that age well with time. Whether you’re layering your space for the colder months or simply adding a few thoughtful details, look for items that can stay with you through the season - and beyond, year after year.
Intentional Living Through Seasonal Details
It’s in these small, intentional touches that home life feels measured. Seasonal decorating isn’t about filling a space with more, but choosing pieces with care: objects that bring warmth, rhythm, and comfort. This autumn, handsewn linen bows, like Claribel from our Autumn Collection, feel right at home.
Crafted in our Somerset workshop in small batches, Claribel is made from natural linen. Her muted, earthy tones move gently with the seasons, quietly enhancing the rhythm of home life. I decided to avoid synthetic fibres, so you’ll not find any wadding or padding in Claribel - this gives the bow a beautifully soft structure that can be scrunched, plumped or smoothed to create a shape that’s as unique as your home.
Hung on a door hook, above a mantel or looped on a peg rail, Claribel is a subtle accent that reflects the changing season and the values of intentional living.
